A Journey Through Surprising Parenthood

1

In the journey of married life, many aspire to welcome the joy of parenthood and raise at least one child. In today’s increasingly industrialized world, the trend is shifting towards having fewer children, enabling parents to provide better care and ensure optimal development for each one.

However, as the saying goes, “children are a blessing from heaven,” and sometimes, plans don’t align with fate, as exemplified by the story of photographer Lucia Staykov, currently residing in Adelaide, Australia. Both she and her husband had envisioned a large family, but their path took a different turn…
“My name is Lucia, and I have a unique story to share. It’s a story where my husband and I had no plans for a big family. However, with the first pregnancy, I welcomed a baby boy. In the second pregnancy, I was expecting twins, two baby boys. Then, in the third pregnancy, surprisingly, I gave birth to three baby girls.”
Life became wonderfully chaotic with multiple children at home, yet my family became my greatest joy. A large family wasn’t part of my life’s plan, but now, I wouldn’t have it any other way. I relish the role of being a mother.

During our first pregnancy, my spouse and I were blessed with an adorable baby boy, and the decision to expand our family was a joyful one. Little did we know, the next pregnancy would bring the unexpected news of twins. Laughter filled the ultrasound room as we absorbed the delightful shock. However, in our subsequent pregnancy, learning that I was carrying triplets left us utterly speechless. The arrival of three little girls at 35 weeks of gestation turned our lives into a whirlwind. Managing to breastfeed three infants posed a significant challenge, but we triumphed.

Leaving the house became a meticulous process, requiring the effort of our entire family. Thankfully, my mother lived nearby and provided invaluable help. Each outing also drew curious strangers, amazed by our two twin boys and three triplet girls.

The inquiries from these strangers sometimes encroached upon our privacy, yet their genuine care was evident. Common questions included: Are the children identical? How do you manage their care? Were you aware you were expecting triplets? However, one instance stood out when a stranger asked if they could kiss one of my daughters, to which I firmly replied, “no.”

In the initial adjustment phase to a large family, personal time seemed non-existent. Yet, strolling with my three daughters in their stroller, watching the boys on their bicycles, brought moments of solace. It was a tranquil time of day for me. The stroller for my three girls was impressive, though its size made it less suitable for certain places. I recall a time at the botanical garden when the stroller couldn’t fit through the gate. Luckily, we entered through the delivery gate at the zoo.
Now that the children have grown, life remains busy, but with a different rhythm. I work part-time as a photographer, and all the kids attend school. Family vacations to explore new destinations remain a cherished tradition. These are the moments we love and eagerly anticipate.
Let’s envision and appreciate the snapshots of happiness captured through the lens of mother Lucia as she photographs her children.
