Mom, don’t cry, I have to go to sleep” – A Heartbreaking Message from a Mother About to Lose Her Child

In a heart-wrenching post on social media, Kate James shared a poignant poem following the tragic loss of her 23-month-old son, Alfie. The poem sheds light on the desperate efforts of Alfie’s father, Tom Evans, who tirelessly attempted mouth-to-mouth resuscitation in a last-ditch effort to save his beloved son.

The excruciating ordeal continued for ten agonizing minutes until those around Tom convinced him that, no matter how hard he tried, he could not bring his precious son back to life.

Alfie’s parents had already fought an arduous legal battle in their quest to seek treatment abroad for their ailing son. Alfie suffered from a degenerative neurological disease that ultimately claimed his young life. He peacefully passed away in the loving arms of his parents at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool.

Shortly after Alfie’s passing, his grieving mother shared a touching poem as a heartfelt tribute to her beloved child. The poem, posted on social media, expressed the deep love and pain experienced by Alfie’s parents:

“Mummy, try not to cry, for I must now go to rest. You will always have me to wipe your tears with you.

Daddy, please be brave, you took my cause to everyone. It’s time for me to rest; the three of us fought hard.

With the court, the Queen, the Pope, you spoke; hope was never lost. Now the pain becomes a heavy burden as the time has come to part.

Although you no longer hold me in your arms, in your heart, you will always have my embrace.

For the Good Lord has called me to sit by His side, to watch over you from above with endless pride.

And to all those who fought for me, a final message before I depart on my journey, ‘Hug your loved ones, for you never know when you’ll be parted.'”

This heart-wrenching poem, originally shared by Anorahs Grant, a member of the group known as “Alfie’s Army,” resonated deeply with many as they learned about the heartbreaking details of Alfie’s final moments.

It was an incredibly challenging day as Alfie had been struggling with breathing difficulties since early morning. The final message from Alfie’s father, confirming the little one’s passing, is nothing short of heartbreakingly devastating.

Alfie’s brave battle came to an end five days after doctors removed his respiratory support on April 28th. His illness remained undiagnosed. May this little angel rest in peace, forever remembered in the hearts of those who fought so hard for him.
